Evernote for Photographers

Evernote

Evernote (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

After creating the little presentation detailing how teachers can use Evernote, I decided to modify it for photographers. I still think 99% of the population can find a way to integrate Evernote into their lives in some way. There are so many different ways to utilize Evernote–find the way that works for you and get organized.

As for photography, use it to store all your client information, release forms, shooting locations, ideas, equipment list (with serial numbers for insurance purposes,) etc.

Sidenote: The presentation was created in Keynote, and some of the coolness was stripped out when exporting to PowerPoint. Sorry about that.

Sidenote #2: The iOS UI has been updated. This presentation still shows the older UI, but the functionality itself is the same. It still rocks.

When it comes to viewing photos, bigger is so much better. Today’s high resolution screens let you explore the details of an image better than ever That’s why we’re very excited to introduce two new photo sizes, 2048 and 1600 pixels. They are already available in the lightbox and will be rolled out to the API and a few other places over the next couple of weeks.

Cool upgrades to Flickr. I'm hoping for a redesign of the stream page.

Skiing with GoPro

I really wish GoPro had been around back when I skied. Not that we did anything like this on the slopes of Showdown.

iOS Photo Editing Apps and Data

I love data almost as much as I love photography, so I want EXIF information to be retained. I’ve noticed recently, while browsing through my Lightroom catalog, that a lot of my iPhone photos are missing information. So I wanted to perform a highly technical and scientific test to see which iOS apps did the best job of preserving the integrity of my photos’ data.

Unfortunately, I lack the patience for highly technical and scientific tests, so this is what I ended up with. I’ve also recently cleaned up the apps on my phone, so I’m only testing the photo editing apps that I chose to retain.

(Photos and screenshots are at the end of the post.) Continue Reading »

Flickr and Pinterest

There has been some controversy surrounding the use of Flickr photos on Pinterest. Through this partnership, proper attribution will now be made when pinning from Flickr. Apparently, it’s retro-active, as well. So previously pinned photos will receive proper attribution.

Personally, I think Pinterest is a great way to gain exposure. It’s “word-of-mouth” for the 21st century.

Portland Time Lapse

This pretty much covers all the reasons I love living in Portland. Amazing time-lapse video work, too.

Chrome Themes

I’ve been messing around with Google Chrome themes lately, so I thought I’d share. If you run the Chrome browser (and really, you should be,) feel free to use one of these themes. (If I remember correctly, you have to install the theming component from the Chrome store.)

Canon 1D C and C500 announced

They’re priced for hard-core professionals, but a Canon 4k video camera is worth every penny, IMHO. FSTOPPERS has pics and specs:
